What in the church notes?
So this is a summary and breakdown of the points that the Preacher at church made today
So I ended up going to church this morning which was kind of hard as I don't drive, but that's beside the point. I'm here to dissect the points that the Preacher used to tie the sermon altogether. The three points were:
-It is possible that over-familiarity can become a hindrance to real faith
-It's possible that our lack of faith can limit the work of God
It is possible to know about Jesus but not truly know him
To get into the first point it was "It is possible that over-familiarity can become a hindrance to real faith". A lot of times we as Christians and as humans may memorize the bible verse and may preach it the same way every time, however, this is not a good thing as it doesn't leave room for God to work through his word and it is essentially going through the motions. If we don't just stop and let God how is he supposed to work through us. This is why whenever reading scripture (even if you've read it a million times) you have to go into it with an open mind and be ready to receive something new. Whether that new thing is a word you didn't notice before or a new interpretation it is best to be ready for that.
To get into the second point as a reminder was "It's possible that our lack of faith can limit the work of God". This one is fairly self-explanatory, but so many times we are just too afraid to share the word or to give someone the good word that it can take people away from Christ rather than lead them to him. As we are told in the bible in Mark 16:15 "He said to them 'Go into the world and preach the gospel to all creation.'"-NIV. So many Christians time after time don't go into the world and preach, rather than just sit and are stagnant. If we truly want people to know the good news we have to do more than just pray for them. We can't just pray and sit there and expect something to happen. There is also work involved in that. It is very important that we are making disciples and not just being disciples.
To get into the last point as a reminder it was "It is possible to know Jesus but do not truly know Jesus". Just because you know who Jesus is as in facts about him doesn't make you a Christian. You have to work to be a Christian and truly know Jesus. Allow Jesus into your heart and strive every day to be like Jesus. If you claim to be a Christian and just know facts about Jesus are you truly practicing what you preach? We have to strive every day to live for him and to again bring the good news to all the earth. Jesus didn't die for us to just learn about him. Jesus died so we could spread the gospel freely and live for him without sin.
To sum this all up it leads to one thing. Jesus. We should all try to be like Jesus more and more each and every day.
God Bless and Go in peace!
